Two men and a teenage boy have been charged in Ramsey County District Court with robbing a 91-year-old woman and dragging her while trying to wrest away her purse.

JaVaunte E. Johnson, 18, and Draveetray L. Williams, 20, both of St. Paul, were charged Tuesday with aggravated first-degree robbery in the Dec. 9 incident. A 15-year-old St. Paul boy, identified in criminal complaints as R.D.T., was charged last week in juvenile court with aiding and abetting aggravated first-degree robbery. His name has not been made public because of his age, but it could be if he is certified to stand trial as an adult.

"This was a brutal robbery of a defenseless elderly victim," County Attorney Susan Gaertner said. "It is sad and outrageous that such a crime would be committed."

According to the criminal complaints against Johnson and Williams: Police were sent to the Walgreens store at 99 W. Maryland Av. just before 10 a.m. Dec. 9, where they met with the victim. She told officers that a young man had pushed her down and grabbed her purse. The purse was wrapped around her wrist, so when her attacker pulled it, he dragged her outside along the ground for several feet.

The victim had a broken finger and a cut near her right eye. The woman's daughter told police that her mother had five $100 bills, 19 $1 bills and possibly some $20s, $10s and $5s, along with her Social Security card and other documents in her purse.

Witnesses told police that four other males who were with the attacker left the store after the robbery and got into a green sport-utility vehicle. The witnesses provided the license plate number.

Police later identified R.D.T. as the alleged robber, Williams as the getaway driver and Johnson as the one who later received the proceeds.
