YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES
A Lakeville man was sentenced Tuesday in connection with a motorcycle accident that killed his friend last year.
Corey Walters, 29, was involved in a collision that killed fellow motorcyclist Denny M. Gragert, 28, in Lakeville early on Labor Day 2008. In December, Walters pleaded guilty to drunken driving.
Authorities determined that Gragert caused the accident but that Walters then rear-ended him about 3 a.m. on Kendrick Avenue, north of County Road 46. Both were thrown from their motorcycles. Neither was wearing a helmet. Gragert died at the scene.
On Tuesday, Dakota County District Judge Robert King sentenced Walters to a year in jail, but stayed that sentence. Walters must, however, serve 15 days in jail, with credit for three days served, and serve 15 days on electronic monitoring at home. He also must pay a $300 fine, attend a victim impact panel and serve at least two years on probation.
