Open flame used by a roofing contractor was the cause of a fire at a Burnsville townhouse complex, authorities said Wednesday.
Burnsville fire officials have linked the blaze, on the 12200 block of Dakota County Road 11, to the flame used on a combustible roof material, according to a statement from Burnsville police.
The fire was reported about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. No one was hurt, but it heavily damaged two townhouses and four others were temporarily uninhabitable.
It rekindled about 6 a.m. Wednesday and was put out before anything else was damaged.
The Red Cross was helping a family of four and a single adult after the fire. The townhouse residents, owners and utilities are working to restore services.
