7 schools in state to receive federal Blue Ribbon awards

Last update: September 15, 2009 - 11:28 PM

Seven schools in Minnesota are among 300 across the country that have been honored by federal education officials for their academic accomplishments.

The U.S. Department of Education has designated the schools as Blue Ribbon Schools for academically superior performance or dramatic improvement in student achievement, especially among disadvantaged students.

According to the office of Sen. Amy Klobuchar, which announced the award on Tuesday, principals and one teacher from each school will attend an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., in early November.

ON THE LIST: The Minnesota schools, public and private, are Delano High School, Lakeville North High School, the Math and Science Academy in Woodbury, Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Edina, Remer Elementary School, Jefferson High School in Bloomington and Vandyke Elementary School in Coleraine.
