SOUTH METRO
Candidates can file now for school boardsThe filing period began Tuesday for south metro school board seats that will be filled in the November election.
Seats are open in these districts: Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, Shakopee, Jordan, Belle Plaine, Prior Lake-Savage and New Prague.
Candidates must file with their school districts by Sept. 8.
BURNSVILLE-EAGAN-SAVAGE
Gideon Pond gets statewide honorGideon Pond Elementary has been named a Minnesota School of Excellence by the Minnesota Elementary School Principals' Association.
The Burnsville school was one of five to receive the endorsement. The schools will be honored during the group's annual statewide convention in February.
