The man fatally shot by a security guard outside an Eagan warehouse early Monday has been identified as Davon O'Keith Wiley.

Wiley, 25, of Minneapolis, died of multiple gunshot wounds, the Hennepin County medical examiner said.

According to Eagan police, Wiley confronted a security guard in the parking lot of a warehouse on the 900 block of Aldrin Drive just after midnight. Wiley was armed and wearing a mask when he allegedly attacked the guard.

The security guard, whose name has not been released, told police he was assaulted by Wiley during an attempted robbery. The guard shot Wiley, then called police. Wiley was pronounced dead at the scene.

The security guard was injured, but did not need medical attention, police said.

According to his Facebook page, Wiley described himself as serving as an engineer for the U.S. Army, and the profile features several photos of him in uniform. He had no criminal history in Minnesota, aside from minor traffic violations.

Investigators continue to look into the incident that took place outside the facility being used by Samaritan's Purse International Relief as a processing center for its Operation Christmas Child program. The center is one of eight across the country where shoe boxes packed with gifts for millions of needy children are collected. Volunteers inspect each shoe box and make it ready to be shipped overseas.

A spokeswoman for Operation Christmas Child said the guard was a contract employee and not on the regular payroll.

Police say a preliminary investigation indicates the guard was acting in self-defense.
