Burned car yields body southwest of Twin Cities

Details are expected to be released this afternoon regarding a burned vehicle discovered southwest of the Twin Cities that had a body inside.

The vehicle fire was reported about 4:15 a.m. Saturday in Washington Lake Township, about a mile northeast of Green Isle in Sibley County, the Sheriff's Office said.

Once the fire was extinguished, the body was sent to the Anoka County medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Neither the person's identity nor circumstances surrounding the fire have yet to be disclosed.

Sheriff Bruce Ponath has scheduled a news conference for 4 p.m. today and will provide an update on the case.
