EAGAN

Curbing bad checks

The Eagan Police Department, together with Financial Crimes Services, has begun a worthless-check diversion and collection program that will address issues surrounding bad checks -- a problem that has plagued business owners and taken the time of police and prosecutors.

The program aims to educate merchants and residents in how to reduce the number of worthless checks being written. The program is paid for by fees charged to people who write the bad checks.

Information is available from the Check Diversion Program at 1-800-880-5420 and on the city of Eagan website at www.cityofeagan.com/police.

Marketing honors

An Eagan marketing and communications firm has been honored in the national Communicator Awards competition. The Wallace Group won an award for a brochure that it produced for ProAct, Inc., a nonprofit organization providing employment related services to people with disabilities. It was also honored for a video prepared for the Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities.

BURNSVILLE

No Hilton here

Ruhr Development has informed Burnsville officials that it is now looking at other cities for a site for a new Hilton franchise hotel. Discussions to build a new hotel in the Heart of the City redevelopment did not come to fruition, council members said.
