District forms stadium committee

A group of parents, community members, administrators and school-board members in the West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan district has formed a stadium advisory committee.

The committee will look at whether relocating the Henry Sibley football stadium, Matson Field, to the high school's campus in Mendota Heights is a possibility.

It's now across the street from Heritage E-STEM Magnet Middle School in West St. Paul.

In fall 2013, moving the stadium was discussed by a facilities task force, but the group thought the school board should study it more and consult the community before moving forward.

A group of stadium advocates contacted school board members in January to ask that the district consider including the stadium in the May referendum that was being planned, knowing that relocating the stadium would likely require bond funding.

In February, the board agreed to continue discussing the idea, but decided not to include the project among referendum projects.

To learn more about the stadium advisory committee, go to www.isd197.org/board/initiatives/stadium.

This page is not only an organizational tool for committee members, it is also open for any community member, teacher, staff member or parent interested in following what the group does. The committee will present findings to the school board in late July.
