Burnsville

Pastel Society exhibit

The Lake Country Pastel Society's member exhibit, called "Toward the Light," is being offered at the Ames Center gallery in Burnsville.

Sally Johnson, director of the Groveland Gallery in Minneapolis, judged the show and presented awards during an opening reception.

Pieces include landscapes, still lifes and other works using mainly pastel.

"The qualities of soft pastel result in unique and beautiful works of art," the society said in announcing the exhibit. "The show asks viewers to share in the sense of radiance and illumination that we try to portray in our work. Whatever the subject, we paint not so much with pigment but with luminous energy."

The society has existed since 1997 and includes everything from beginners to professionals.

The center, known in the past as Burnsville Performing Arts Center, is at 12600 Nicollet Av., Burnsville. The exhibit lasts through July 9.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday noon to 4 p.m. It's free and open to the public.
