Weeks after police in Lakeville kicked up a controversy by entering a family home late at night because doors stood open, Savage police say they will begin using a Post-It-style "contact card" as a means of reminding homeowners about the same sort of issue.
A 3-inch-by-4-inch piece of paper with adhesive backing will be left on people's doors and windows when, for instance, officers find open doors, see illegal watering, or want to make contact in "many other situations" at homes and businesses where no one seems present, officials said.
The card will bear an incident number and contact information for more details. Reminders about things like garage doors left open could "help prevent situations which invite criminal activity in the future," a city announcement said.
