Rory Alan Mitchell, 50, is charged with one count of robbery. He also is suspected of robbing a Wells Fargo Bank branch on Sycamore Lane in Maple Grove less than 90 minutes after the holdup in Burnsville and of robbing a bank in Maplewood on Monday.
Kimberly Anne Hillage, 43, is charged with one count of aiding an offender. The criminal complaint said she rented several hotel rooms for herself and Mitchell until they were arrested Monday in Minneapolis.
The couple apparently are from Washington state. The complaints detailing their alleged crimes said both have unknown addresses. The complaints said that Hillage has an active order of protection against Mitchell in Tacoma, Wash.
Burnsville police were called to the TCF Bank at 1400 W. County Road 42 at 4:15 p.m. April 15. According to the criminal complaint, witnesses reported that a man later identified as Mitchell demanded money and showed a teller a handwritten note saying, “Give me your $100s, $50s and $20. This is no joke.”
A man matching the same description also robbed the Wells Fargo at 6225 N. Sycamore Lane in Maple Grove, about 30 miles away from the Burnsville bank, about 5:35 p.m.
In both cases, the robber wore jeans, a gray sweatshirt and a baseball cap with “Call of Duty Ghosts” on the front.
An employee at a Bloomington hotel saw photos of the robbery suspect in the media and told police that Hillage rented a room there from April 10 to 13. Mitchell was with her, the employee said, and wore the same sweatshirt and hat each day.
Mitchell and Hillage were arrested at a Minneapolis motel. Both made their first court appearances in Hastings on Wednesday. Mitchell is being held on $300,000 bail, Hillage on $100,000 bail.
