Mom’s, Dad’s day memories on tap

Kids will have a chance to make special gifts for their parents for Mother’s and Father’s Day at Prior Lake City Hall this spring.

The activities are aimed at tykes age six and under, with an adult.

The Mother’s Day session is May 8 from 10-11 a.m. at the City Hall lunchroom.

The cost is $7 for residents and $12 for nonresidents. The deadline to register is May 5.

The Father’s Day session is June 12 from 10-11 a.m. in the same spot and for the same cost. Deadline is June 9.

Shakopee

Police get award for work on DUIs

Shakopee police are being honored for their work to catch drunk drivers.

MADD Minnesota (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) has given the department its Outstanding Law Enforcement Department Award.

It was the second time in recent years, the first being 2011.

The agency was commended for going above and beyond in making an impact in reducing alcohol-related death and injury on Minnesota’s roads.

At the same event, Shakopee Officer Josh Davis was honored for outstanding service.

Online security class

With online security a hot topic in light of the Heartbleed bug and high-profile data breaches, the Dakota County Library and Dakota County Technical College are offering a free cybersecurity class teaching the basics of protecting personal information from cyberattacks.

The session, from 6-7:30 p.m. May 7 at the Robert Trail Library, 14395 S. Robert Trail, Rosemount, will cover features of good online passwords, mobile security, malware and other topics.
