A fundraiser on Thursday will continue efforts to build an outdoor performance and gathering space in Hastings' Levee Park.

The Hastings River Place Kickoff Party, from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, is an open house with live music and improvisation by the Black Dirt Theater Company. There will be snacks and a cash bar.

The event will raise money for the envisioned River Place, which backers hope can become a focal point of music, theater, arts and other activities in the city. The Hastings Rotary Club has been leading the effort. The estimated cost of the center is $450,000.

The open house will be in the Green Mill Events Center above Premier Bank, 101 W. 10th St.
