Prior Lake-Savage: The Prior Lake-Savage district has approved offering full-day Spanish immersion kindergarten at Edgewood School next fall. The program will be offered for free, along with full-day kindergarten across the district, thanks to a bill passed by the Legislature last spring. A parent information meeting about Spanish immersion kindergarten will be held Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Edgewood School. Kindergarten registration will take place at all district elementary schools, including at Edgewood for the Spanish immersion program, on Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. Parents interested in half-day kindergarten should attend registration on Jan. 23 and set up a meeting with the principal at their neighborhood school to arrange this option. Prior Lake-Savage: Enrollment in the Prior-Lake Savage district is expected to increase by 125 students next year due to more housing permits being issued. As a result, the school board has approved the recommendations of the Demographic Review Committee, which suggests planning for the additional students by limiting open enrollment in buildings with high growth. The predictions exceed estimates from a demographic study conducted in 2012, which suggested there would be 100 additional students next year. A committee will meet annually to review growth projections and make recommendations to plan for that growth.

Dakota County Technical College: The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system has announced that Tim Wynes’ appointment as interim president of Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) will extend through the 2014-15 academic year. The system will begin a national search for a new president next fall and hopes to choose a new leader by April 2015. Wynes began his interim presidency on July 1.
