Dakota County arts & leisure: Performance will benefit the hungry

  • Updated: November 2, 2013 - 2:00 PM

A guitarist and vocalist will play the music of Minnesota composers during the first concert in a local church’s “Open Doors” series to raise money to benefit the nonprofit 360 Communities.

The Dream Songs Project, composed of mezzo-soprano Alyssa Anders and guitarist Joseph Spoelstra, will perform as part of their Northern Songs tour at 7 p.m. Saturday at Saints Martha and Mary Episcopal Church, 4180 Lexington Av. S., Eagan.

The concert is appropriate for all ages, and will include an informal meet-and-greet with the ensemble and composer Daniel Nass after the performance.

The concert series is in its seventh season of providing music to feed the hungry. Concerts are free, but there is a suggested donation of $10 and nonperishable food items.

BURNSVILLE

‘La Feminine’ returns

An art exhibit featuring the work of local women is expanding and returning to the Burnsville Performing Arts Center gallery with a new collection of paintings.

“Metamorphosis — New Dreams, New Visions, New Directions,” part of the La Feminine group, will include the work of original collaborators Patricia Schwartz and Christine Tierney, as well as a new addition, portrait artist Leslie Bowman. An opening reception is 6-8 p.m. Friday, and the exhibit will be open daily through Dec. 14.

The Burnsville Performing Arts Center is at 12600 Nicollet Av.

The LaFeminine concept was the brainchild of Schwartz, who in 2009 collaborated with Tierney to develop their inaugural exhibit, which premiered in November 2011.

The opening will include live music by classical guitarist Gene Swanson. Admission is free. Wine, chocolates, coffee and hors d’oeuvres will be available.
