Resident honored for 12 years on panel

Shakopee resident Terri Hanke recently completed serving 12 years as a member of the Shakopee Community Education Advisory Council.

She served two six-year terms representing adults with disabilities.

Hanke was recognized at the council's Sept. 10 meeting for her commitment in serving others.

Education Advisory Council has openings

The Shakopee Community Education Advisory Council currently has openings for community members to serve as volunteers.

Members represent a cross-section of residents and help gauge the community's learning needs. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

Lakeville

What do the next 100 years hold?

Lakeville will hold the city's first "TEDxLakeville" event, which will feature many Lakeville-area residents speaking on the topic of "The Next 100 Years."

In keeping with the format of other TED conferences, speakers will have 18 minutes to present an innovative idea. Speakers will include Lakeville Superintendent Lisa Snyder, Lakeville Mayor Matt Little, and Lisa Helminiak, CEO of Azul 7, along with many others.

The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, at Lakeville South High School, 21135 Jacquard Av. in Lakeville. It is free and open to the public.

Levy information sessions planned

The Lakeville School District will hold a levy information session at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the Crystal Lake Education Center, 16250 Ipava Road, Lakeville.

Lakeville residents will have a chance to vote on the proposed levy on Tuesday, Nov. 5, and all residents will receive a postcard in the mail indicating their polling location.

The parent-teacher organizations (PTOs) at many district schools will also hold their own information sessions, including:

• At 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, at Oak Hills Elementary, 8640 165th St. in Lakeville.

• At 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Lake Marion Elementary, 19875 Dodd Blvd. in Lakeville.

• At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at JFK Elementary, 21240 Holyoke Av. in Lakeville.

Prior Lake-Savage

High school breaks ground on addition

Prior Lake High School broke ground Monday on its new addition. The space will include classrooms, science labs, special education and ELL rooms, and office space.

The addition will cost about $8.3 million and will be paid for using lease levy funds, which will not raise property taxes for residents.
