City to help upgrade business looks
Shakopee has changed its loan program for commercial exteriors in hopes of encouraging owners to launch upgrades.
There’s a forgivable loan for facade improvements in which the city would pay for half the cost up to $15,000.
Changes must be visible from outside, though they can include roofs. Planting of trees, painting, lighting, awnings, signage and restoration of historic details can be included.
Forgiveness of the loan would happen over five years, with 20 percent lopped off each year. If the building is sold, a new set of rules applies.
The city will post more details on its website at www.ci.shakopee.mn.us/economic development.cfm.
