Teacher's project at national conference

Sharon Shelerud, a social studies teacher at Metcalf Junior High, will present details about her Global Bridges program at the National Council for Social Studies Conference Nov. 22-24 in St. Louis.

Shelerud, along with a teacher in Maryland, created Global Bridges as a way to connect their students with students in Argentina.

The project started with students in Shelerud's Advanced Placement geography class creating projects about immigration. Then, over Skype, her students shared their projects with the Argentine students, who completed a similar project about immigration there.

Another session with the Spanish-speaking students is planned for this fall, with the goal of encouraging students to teach fellow students about their place in the world.
