Cedar BRT opening: How it works

What does it cost? For adults, $1.75 during non-rush hours and $2.25 during rush hours. For those under 12 or older than 64, 75 cents during non-rush hours and $2.25 during rush hours.

When do the buses run? About 5 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to midnight Saturday and Sunday. During those times, a bus will come every 15 minutes or every 30 minutes.

How do I pay? Tickets for quick boarding may be purchased at ticketing machines at the Mall of America Transit Station or Apple Valley Transit Station. At other stops, riders may pay cash at the front of the bus or use a prepaid Go-To ride card at the front or back door of the bus.

How will fares be enforced? Transit police will make spot checks for fare payment.

Where it will stop? Five stations on every trip: three in Apple Valley, one in Eagan and one at the Mall of America.

If the last stop is the Mall of America, how can I use BRT to get to the airport or downtown? At the Mall of America transit center, BRT riders can transfer to the Hiawatha Light Rail line.

How fast will the buses travel? Buses will travel with traffic at the posted speeds but may move to the shoulder to get around congestion. On the shoulder, they can typically travel 15 mph faster than congested traffic.

How many riders are expected? 975 per day in the first full year of service. Weekday ridership is projected to grow to 1,600 by 2017.

What will it cost to operate? The annual operating cost is estimated at $3.2 million.

How fast is it? A ride down the entire BRT line should take 23 to 27 minutes, from Apple Valley to the Mall of America.
