Shakopee is seeking opinions on a plan to set aside some parkland for an off-leash dog park.

The area would be located north of Southbridge Parkway, on a big wooded park now officially known as Parcel 75.

The dog park would go on the west side of the parcel, mostly beneath some power lines.

The rest of the park will remain heavily wooded and contain trails for users to enjoy the area's natural beauty, city officials are assuring residents.

An ice rink may someday go on the southern part of the parcel for hockey players and other skaters.

There's an open house from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Red Oak Elementary School cafeteria, 7700 Old Carriage Court.

Construction on the park could start later this year, officials say.
