Rosemount is again offering gardening plots to residents.

The 400-square-foot plots can be reserved for $35 per year and are available in Biscayne, Jaycee, Lions and Winds parks as well as another parcel on the corner of Akron Avenue and Bonaire Path, according to a Rosemount Parks and Recreation press release.

Plots can be reserved online or at the Parks and Recreation office in the Rosemount Community Center, 13885 S. Robert Trail. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

DAKOTA COUNTY

Applications sought for advisory groups Now is your chance to join a citizen advisory committee in Dakota County, with seven committees currently listing openings.

The Dakota County Board of Commissioners invites residents to apply for volunteer positions on the Dakota-Scott County Workforce Investment Board, the Extension Committee, the Human Services Advisory Committee, the Library Board, the Personnel Board of Appeals, the Planning Commission and the Special Board of Appeal and Equalization.

Each committee meets with different frequency and in different cities. Some committees have vacancies only in specific districts and require those serving to live in that district. For committee details, qualifications and district information, visit www.co.dakota.mn.us/Government/CAC/pages.

Applications can be accessed online or by calling 651-438-4418. Applications are continuously accepted and kept on file for a year, with incumbents eligible for reappointment.

EAGAN

Hansen reelected chairman of MVTA Eagan City Council Member Gary Hansen has been reelected as chairman of the board of the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority.

The transit authority provides bus service to Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Rosemount and Savage.

Apple Valley City Council Member Clint Hooppaw was elected vice chairman of the board and Jane Victorey, Savage City Council member, was reelected secretary/treasurer.

The board typically meets at 4:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Burnsville bus garage, 11550 Rupp Drive.

Info session for local mentoring group The Kids 'n Kinship program will host an information session for any individual, couple or family interested in learning more about volunteering with children, either as a mentor (to youth ages 5 to 16) or as an elementary school tutor. The information session will be held on Thursday' from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at the Wescott Library, 1340 Wescott Road, Eagan.

Kids 'n Kinship provides ongoing support and training for volunteers. The program is especially looking for men to mentor boys on a waiting list and for volunteers who have experience working with special needs kids.
