"Indiscriminate" is how police Monday described the stabbing of a 53-year-old man by two men who then set his Burnsville home ablaze in several places before fleeing in his car.
Police said no arrests had been made in the crimes, which occurred before dawn Sunday in the 13600 block of Knox Drive.
Friends have identified the victim as Paul Traub.
Police said that they are "actively following up on leads," Sgt. Jef Behnken said in a news release Monday.
"The assault appears to be indiscriminate in nature," Behnken said, "and we want to remind everyone to make sure your homes are locked and secured when not in constant use."
Police said that the victim told them he did not know his attackers, who may have been attracted to his home in the fourplex by his car parked in an open garage.
Traub was hospitalized at Hennepin County Medical Center and was expected to survive the multiple stab wounds.
His vehicle was recovered soon after in Burnsville.
