Apple Valley City Council approves downsizing of downtown project

Last update: May 9, 2008 - 8:18 PM

Apple Valley's City Council late Thursday approved a downsizing proposal for a major project in its new, walkable downtown.

A firm called Pedersen Ventures had asked the council for permission to reconfigure its Village at Founders Circle, a project at Galaxie Avenue and 153rd Street. The developer sought to reduce the amount of retail space and the total of housing units from 197 to 129 amid a slumping market.

The council agreed to direct its staff to change the development agreement and approved a new site plan, City Clerk Pam Gackstetter said. The company hopes to start building this fall and finish by 2010.

The city is hoping to create a pedestrian-friendly, more urban downtown featuring condos and townhouses, stores and green space.
