A 26-year-old Farmington man was killed when the van he was riding in crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with an SUV on Cedar Avenue in Apple Valley on Sunday night, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. when a 2000 GMC Savana driven by Salomon G. Adorno, 31, of Farmington, veered off southbound Cedar, went over a metal guardrail, and ended up in the in the northbound lanes of Cedar Avenue near County Road 38. The van was struck by a 2007 Chevy Tahoe.

Adorno's passenger, Inoncencio Munoz-Gutierrez, was killed, and Adorno was hospitalized in critical condition, the patrol said.

The driver of the Tahoe, Jason M. Bruenig, 39, of Lakeville, and one of his passengers, Kristi M. Breunig, 35, of Lakeville, sustained minor injuries. A second passenger, a 7-year-old girl, was unhurt.
