Last update: April 6, 2008 - 11:28 PM

A man found lying in a Burnsville parking lot with fatal head injuries early Saturday was identified as Carlos Noriega, 22, of Prior Lake, Burnsville police said Sunday, adding that they are investigating his death as a possible homicide.

Officers were called to the Event Center parking lot off E. Hwy. 13 just after 2 a.m. Saturday on a report that someone had been run over by a vehicle after a fight or disturbance of some kind in the parking lot. They found Noriega lying unresponsive with severe head injuries, performed CPR and were able to get his heart started before he was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where he died.

Burnsville police said Sunday that it appears Noriega was walking to his truck in the parking lot when he was struck by a speeding vehicle, possibly driven by someone involved in the fight or disturbance who then fled the scene. Police continue to interview witnesses and ask that anyone with information call 952-895-4642.
