South metro arts briefs: Bestselling author at Galaxie Library

The author of a bestseller about the migration of millions of blacks out of the American South in the mid-20th century will discuss her book at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Galaxie Library.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Isabel Wilkerson wrote "The Warmth of Other Suns," which is about three people leaving all they knew during the so-called Great Migration. The book was one of five picked by President Obama for his summer 2011 vacation.

The library is at 14955 Galaxie Av., Apple Valley. The event is free and doors open 45 minutes before the program begins.

Pops concert rescheduled

The Minnesota Sinfonia's annual summer pops concert at Caponi Art Park, which was was rained out on Father's Day, has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 15 in the Theater in the Woods outdoor amphitheater. The art park is at 1220 Diffley Road, Eagan.

APPLE VALLEY

Lynx basketball clinics

Three Minnesota Lynx players and soon-to-be Olympians, including Minnesota star Lindsay Whalen, will make appearances at free clinics intended to help local girls improve their basketball skills.

Whalen, Seimone Augustus and Maya Moore are scheduled to take part in the clinics, one of which is at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Apple Valley Community Center. The events, sponsored by MidCountry Bank, are open to girls ages 8-13 and come with a free ticket package to a Lynx game.
