A department head who got involved with dissident county commissioners in a move against Scott County Administrator Gary Shelton has been fired, and the whole mess could land in court.
The identity of Tim Walsh, the county's health and human services director since 2003, remained secret for months as Shelton was investigated and then cleared in March. The investigation was based on Walsh's complaint alleging improprieties, including conflicts of interest in connection with a second job held by Shelton.
But at last week's board meeting, commissioners all but used Walsh's name, and after that he came forward openly.
"I have been proud and privileged to serve Scott County," Walsh said in an e-mail. He added: "None of the alleged concerns [about him on which the firing was based] predate my complaints and charges against the county administrator."
Walsh was fired last week after being suspended. He did not go out of his way to quash rumors that he's likely to sue.
