Tips for online safety

Last update: October 29, 2007 - 8:04 PM

• Exercise the same precautions online as you would offline. Whether responding to an ad on the bulletin board at your local yoga studio, in your newspaper or online, be cautious.

• Choose a public place such as a cafe when meeting someone for the first time, and ensure other people are around.

• Take a person with you to meetings.

• Tell a friend or family member where you're going, and keep a cell phone on you.

• Always trust your instincts.

• Never post or give out your address, phone number or meeting place online.

• Use private e-mail after first contact.

• Don't let anyone pick you up or drop you off at home.

• If anything seems suspicious, cease all contact and notify site moderators.
