At least two people were killed and several were injured Sunday night in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 south of St. Cloud.

Along with the fatalities, there were reports of five or more people injured in the crash, which happened about 7 p.m., closing westbound I-94 for hours, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

The accident occurred near the Clearwater exit when a semitrailer truck rammed a vehicle that was slowing because of a vehicle on fire on the side of the road, the State Patrol said.

Investigators said the truck did not slow down quickly enough and it crashed into the back of a vehicle, killing two of its occupants.

Five or more vehicles were involved in the incident, the State Patrol said.

There was no additional information on how severe the other injuries might be, Lt. Eric Roeske said Sunday night.

In a separate incident Sunday afternoon, a 74-year-old man died in a head-on collision in Wilkin County near Breckenridge, the State Patrol reported on its website.

The unidentified driver, from Wahpeton, N.D., was driving in a van on Hwy. 75 in Wilkin County about 2:30 p.m. when his car collided with another vehicle going in the opposite direction. No cause for the crash had been given by the State Patrol as of late Sunday.

Also on Sunday afternoon, the State Patrol was investigating a fatality in Wright County on Hwy. 55 and County Road 3. The State Patrol said the person, who was not identified, was traveling in a vehicle going west on Hwy. 55 when another vehicle crossed over the line and hit the car. No cause for the crash has been given.
