A baseball league for kids with disabilities will get its start next Sunday with its first game and the groundbreaking for its new field in Lakeville.

The South Metro Miracle League is for kids ages 3-19 with disabilities. The new field will be handicapped- and wheelchair-accessible and will have a cushioned artificial surface. Sunday's events start with games and activities at 11 a.m., followed by the groundbreaking at 11:30 and the first pitch at noon. The event is at King Field, 20915 Holyoke Av.

Young musicians sought

The StringWerks youth orchestra is holding auditions for its season that begins Sept. 13. String players of all levels are welcome, and more advanced brass, woodwind and percussion musicians are needed for the symphony. Musicians are placed in performance groups based on ability. Civil War event at LeDuc

The Civil War era will come to life next weekend at the LeDuc Historic Estate, with military reenactments and drills, costumes, art, music and a discussion about the causes of the war.

Events will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the estate, 1629 Vermillion St. Admission, including a tour of the LeDuc House, ranges from $3-$6. For a complete schedule, see www.dakotahistory.org.
