Edina man sentenced in hit-and-run of Champlin woman

Last update: October 12, 2009 - 7:57 PM

An Edina man was sentenced on Monday to 41 months in prison in the June hit-and-run death of a Champlin woman.

Christopher Mark Beussman pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal vehicular homicide and was sentenced on one count by Hennepin County District Judge Mark Wernick. Beussman was given credit for the 121 days he has been in custody.

According to the criminal complaint, Beussman told police he knew he was drunk in June when he hit Heather Lyn Solberg, 44, while she was in a crosswalk.

Solberg, a mother of two, was with a group crossing Hwy. 169 at Hayden Lake Road after a fireworks display that was a part of the Father Hennepin Festival. A witness said she was hit by a fast-moving vehicle that might have run a stop sign.

The witness and police found a woman in the driver's seat, but Beussman told police he had been driving when Solberg was struck, according to the complaint.
