School bus runs into Maple Grove ditch; no kids hurt

No passengers were injured when a school bus carrying 39 students and their 11 chaperones went into a ditch Tuesday in Maple Grove, authorities said.

The bus, carrying children returning from a summer field trip sponsored through Osseo Area Schools, went into a ditch about 3 p.m. along Fernbrook Lane N., north of County Road 81, said Amy Blake Field, communication specialist for Osseo area schools.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene, but no passengers required medical attention, Blake Field said. The driver may have suffered minor injuries, police said. Witnesses said she appeared to slump over before the bus left the road, Maple Grove police Capt. Tracy Stille said. The driver was taken to North Memorial Medical Center, Stille said.

Police say no other vehicles appeared to be involved. The students were from the metro area. Additional buses were dispatched to pick up the passengers.
