Brooklyn Park police were searching Friday for a third suspect involved in the shooting of a teenager who was left critically wounded.

The 16-year-old was shot at 11:17 p.m. Thursday in the 8000 block of Hampshire Avenue N., outside the home where he was staying. Police arrived to find him with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to an area hospital, where he underwent surgery, and is expected to survive.

A vehicle leaving the scene of the shooting was stopped by police, and a 17-year-old was arrested. A follow-up investigation led to the arrest of a second suspect, also 17. The third remains at large.

Capt. Greg Roehl of the Brooklyn Park Police Department said a dispute over a cell phone led to the shootings. It is not known whether the suspects or victim are gang members, he said. Police are on the hunt for the third suspect, but are not yet asking for the public's help, Roehl said.
