No ID on body found frozen in Ham Lake golf pond

Anoka County authorities have not yet identified the body of a man found encased in ice at a Ham Lake golf course.

Groundskeepers at Majestic Oaks Golf Course discovered the body frozen in about 2 feet of water shortly after 1 p.m. Friday.

Authorities worked throughout the evening Friday using industrial steamers from the Anoka County Highway Department to remove it from the ice.

It appeared to have been in the water for several months, at least since before the first November freeze, said Lt. Paul Sommer of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Sommer recalled no missing persons reports from the area.

Investigators found a wallet in the man's back pocket, but will not identify him pending an autopsy. Authorities said it may take two days for the body to thaw so an autopsy can be conducted.

Although the head and face were badly damaged, Sommer said the body is believed to be a man's based on the clothing.
