Police on Monday searched both sides of the Mississippi at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park for a man reported missing the night before.

Relatives called the Coon Rapids Police Department to say that the man, 58, was last seen leaving his Coon Rapids home in a car on Sunday night. The car was found Monday in a parking lot at the park, and police from Coon Rapids, Brooklyn Park and Three Rivers Park joined the search of an area that is partly wooded and partly landscaped with biking and hiking trails.

The park was not closed during the search, said Sgt. Rick Boone of Coon Rapids police. The search continued on both sides of the river, and involved "numerous officers," Boone said.

The missing man, described as being 5-foot-5-inches, 165 pounds with a gray beard and gray shaggy hair, was under "emotional stress," according to police.

"We're concerned for his welfare and just want to get him home safe," Boone said Monday afternoon.
