A nursing home employee has been charged with stealing a narcotic pain reliever from a medication dispenser and replacing it with Tylenol.
Pamela L. Paist, 40, of Hugo, was charged Thursday in Minneapolis federal court.
Paist allegedly obtained Percocet, a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen, on Feb. 7 from the facility where she is a nurse.
In April, according to state records, the Minnesota Board of Nursing applied a "stipulation to cease practicing nursing" on Paist's license. That means that Paist has agreed to stop practicing nursing and the board "will put on hold any investigation" of her that it's conducting until the criminal case is resolved, said board assistant director for practice and policy Rene Cronquist.
If convicted, Paist faces a potential maximum penalty of four years in prison.
Paist's attorney declined to comment.
Neither side in the case disclosed the name of the nursing home where the theft allegedly occurred.
