Three children are in serious but stable condition at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis after being struck by a car in Columbia Heights on Saturday night.
The children, whose names were not released, are a 4-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, said Anoka County sheriff's detective Wayne Heath. Authorities are not releasing their relationship to one another.
The children were struck at 11:18 p.m. at 52nd and Central Avenues NE. They were apparently crossing the street at the intersection, which is controlled by stoplights, Heath said. It's unclear who had the right of way.
The driver, a 43-year-old Twin Cities man, stopped at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. It's too early to determine what may have caused the crash or whether drugs, alcohol or other conditions were a factor, authorities said.
The children were with other people, Heath said, declining to say whom.
