Fridley club owner charged with 22 tax crimes

Last update: September 15, 2008 - 2:03 PM

The owner of a Fridley club is facing 22 felony tax charges according to a complaint filed in Anoka County District Court.

According to the complaint, Ray Reed, Jr., has owned the Fridley Crab House Music Cafe since 2003, but admitted that he failed to file the eatery's income taxes for a four year period from 2003 to 2006.

Reed, 37, of White Bear Lake, allegedly owes the state $215,000, the Minnesota Department of Revenue said.

In addition to four counts of failing to file corporate income tax returns, the complaint said Reed faces 17 other felony tax charges that include filing false sales tax returns, failing to pay sales and failing to pay corporate franchise taxes.

Each of the 22 felonies is punishable by a maximum of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
