A Twin Cities man standing in traffic on a northwest metro interstate late at night with his hands raised was run over and killed, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. Thursday in the right-hand lane of eastbound Interstate 94, just west of Zane Avenue in Brooklyn Park, according to the State Patrol.

Killed was Trevon R. Tucker, 20, of Columbia Heights, the patrol said. Authorities have yet to say why Tucker was standing in traffic.

The driver of the car, David Fraga, 29, of Miami Beach, Fla., was not hurt.

Tucker, wearing dark clothing, had his hands in the air when he was hit, according to the patrol.

The driver "tried to stop, but the right front portion of the Chrysler struck the pedestrian," a statement from the patrol said.
