William Thomas Holt was the man shot and killed by police in St. Anthony last Thursday, the Hennepin County medical examiner's office said Tuesday.

Holt, 51, of Ellaville, Ga., was in a mobile home in the Lowry Grove RV Park, 2501 Lowry Av. NE., in St. Anthony, near the border of Minneapolis, when the incident began.

Police first went to the area about 9:30 p.m. on a report of gunfire and claims of a gunfight. The East Metro SWAT team and vehicle joined other officers at the scene.

A man shouted from inside the trailer that he was being held at gunpoint by another person, but authorities eventually determined that he was alone.

About an hour after police officers arrived, a man emerged from the unit and began running toward officers with a rifle in his hands, ignoring repeated orders to drop the weapon, police said.

Several witnesses said they saw the man fire at the officer. Three members of the East Metro SWAT team returned fire. All three are Roseville police officers.

Hold died of multiple gunshot wounds at 10:42 p.m. Thursday, according to the medical examiner's office.
