People with homes or businesses along West Broadway Avenue between Candlewood Drive and 93rd Avenue N. in Brooklyn Park are invited to an open house Sept. 16 to hear about upcoming road work.
The city and Hennepin County are sponsoring the gathering, to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brooklyn Park City Hall council chambers, 5200 85th Av. N. The purpose is to gather comments from citizens and businesses about their concerns and to publicize preliminary plans.

Dr. Noel Laudi of the Hubert Humphrey Cancer Center will lead a free public forum on blood cancers at Unity Hospital in Fridley from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 18.

Seniors who love to sing are neededThe Northwest Singing Seniors is looking for new members 55 or older who love to sing.
Rehearsals are 2 to 3:30 p.m. Mondays starting Sept. 8 at the Fine Arts Building at North Hennepin Community College, 7411 85th Av. N., Brooklyn Park. No auditions or dues are required. The group performs for people living in nursing and assisted-living homes, care centers and apartments.

Empty plastic bottles and soda cans now have their own special places in Ramsey County recreation areas.
More than 300 recycling bins will be placed in county parks, beaches, ice arenas and locker rooms by the end of the year. The outdoor containers are made by a Minnesota company that buys plastic bottles from Ramsey County recycling programs.
Polling place changes
Coon Rapids residents of Wards 21 and 14 will have a new polling place for the 2008 election season.
Ward 21 residents who previously voted at Fire Station No. 2, on 121st Avenue NW., now will vote at Chapel Hill Church, 12691 Hanson Blvd. Ward 21 is bounded by Hanson Boulevard, 133rd Avenue, Foley Boulevard/Main Street/Olive Street and 119th Avenue/119th Lane/Xeon Street/121st Avenue.
All Ward 14 residents who once voted at Chapel Hill Church now will vote at Coon Rapids Free Church, 2650 128th Av. NW. Ward 14 is bounded by Hanson Boulevard, 133rd Avenue, Main Street and Coon Creek Boulevard/131st Avenue/Osage Street.

Watershed District has grant moneyCoon Creek Watershed District has grant money available for organizations within the district that are planning projects to provide pertinent information about water resources, to offer volunteer opportunities, or to provide educational opportunities for K-12 students to learn about water quality. The city of New Brighton will hold its semiannual Cleanup Day 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 13. Residents can dispose of household items -- mattresses, couches, appliances, tires, tech waste and more -- not usually accepted by garbage haulers. Disposal fees, which vary depending on the item, subsidize the cost of the program. The dropoff site is at the New Brighton Maintenance Garage, 700 5th St. NW. Residents should bring proof of New Brighton residency.
