Hospitalized Andover man is in critical condition.

A man was set on fire in an Andover home and critically burned, and the victim’s landlord and roommate was arrested many miles to the north within hours in St. Louis County, authorities said Wednesday.

Deputies found the victim about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday with “severe burns” at the home in the 1300 block of 137th Lane NW., according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office. The man was at Hennepin County Medical Center in critical condition with burns over 80 percent of his body.

The suspect, a 29-year-old man, fled in a vehicle but was tracked down and booked into the St. Louis County jail, the Sheriff’s Office added.

Authorities have yet to explain what prompted the conflict but described it as a dispute between a landlord and a tenant.

“The victim had allegedly been doused with an accelerant and purposely set on fire,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Earlier Tuesday, deputies went to the home concerning a dispute between the two but left once the parties agreed “to separate for the evening,” the Sheriff’s Office added.

The suspect, who has yet to be charged, has a criminal history in Minnesota that includes convictions for theft and property damage, among others.
