Authorities on Wednesday identified the man who died in a two-vehicle crash last week in Andover, when an SUV coming the other way veered into his lane.

Killed in the collision on the afternoon of Aug. 26 was Gary R. Christofferson, of Isanti, Minn., a former teacher at Cambridge Middle School, and a head baseball coach, an assistant baseball coach and assistant football coach at Cambridge-Isanti High School.

Christofferson, who began teaching in the school district in the mid-1970s before leaving in 1999 for other education-related positions, was honored at the Cambridge-Isanti home football game Aug. 29 with a moment of silence.

The SUV was heading north on Round Lake Boulevard near 174th Avenue, crossed the centerline of the two-lane road and hit Christofferson's car head-on, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the SUV, Christina M. Rockstroh, 42, of Princeton, Minn., was hospitalized and has survived her injuries.

Authorities have yet to reveal why the SUV went into the wrong lane.
