Brooklyn Park man arrested in rape after DNA match

Last update: May 8, 2008 - 9:34 PM

A DNA match resulted in the arrest this week of a Brooklyn Park man suspected of kidnapping and rape, months after the alleged rape of a woman who later was dumped near Interstate 94 in Minneapolis.

Duncan Nyanaro Osoro, 24, is charged with kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual conduct, both felonies, in the incident, in which a woman reported being raped after a night out at a Minneapolis nightclub.

According to a criminal complaint filed Thursday in Hennepin County District Court, the woman told police she was at the Karma nightclub Aug. 26 when one of her friends became sick and threw up inside the nightclub. The woman told police her friend had only had two drinks and had never become sick from drinking before.

She said she doesn't remember anything that happened after that, between 2 and 10 a.m. the next day, when she awoke to find herself lying in a grassy area at 49th Street and Lyndale Avenue S. west of I-94. Her white shirt was covered in blood and blood was on her hands and knees, she said. She went to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where a sexual assault exam revealed that she had been raped.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension later found that physical evidence found during the exam matched the DNA profile of Osoro. He was arrested Wednesday.
