A 27-year-old man was shot seven times, including in the torso and face, in Anoka, leaving him in critical condition and the suspected shooter in custody, authorities said Monday.

The shooting of Darrel D. Reed occurred about 3:15 p.m. Saturday at his home in the 700 block of Southview Dr., according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect, a 24-year-old man from East Bethel, was arrested about 2 1/2 hours later in north Minneapolis. He has yet to be charged.

The two men have known each for a "long time," said Sheriff's Cmdr. Paul Sommer. "We have no idea what motivated the shooting, and the suspect isn't saying."

As of Monday, Reed was in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Witnesses in the area saw the suspect and noticed he was armed, the Sheriff's Office said. A vehicle description, with the license plate number, was sent to all nearby law enforcement agencies.

Minneapolis police stopped the vehicle and arrested the suspect about 5:40 p.m. in the 3500 block of 4th Street N., according to the Sheriff's Office. A handgun was recovered.

The suspect's criminal history in Minnesota includes four convictions, two each for drug possession and disorderly conduct.
