A pedestrian who was struck and killed by a northbound BNSF freight train in Fridley on Monday night has been identified as John Robert Iverson, 29, of Blaine.

Police were called about the incident at 8:05 p.m. When they arrived, they found a male on the west side of the railroad tracks, north of 77th Way NE. He died at the scene.

BNSF spokesman Steven Forsberg said the incident did not occur at a crossing. The train was en route from St. Paul to Tacoma, he said.

Fridley police said foul play is not suspected. Officials from the Fridley Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff's Office and the railroad continue to investigate.
