A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday night by a BNSF freight train as it headed north in Fridley.

Police were called about the incident at 8:05 p.m. When they arrived, they found a male on the west side of the railroad tracks, north of 77th Way NE. He died at the scene.

BNSF spokesman Steven Forsberg said the incident did not occur at a crossing. The train was enroute from St. Paul to Tacoma, he said.

Fridley police said foul play is not suspected. The man's identity is being withheld while officials from the Fridley Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff's Office and the railroad continue to investigate.
