Man accused of torching ex-girlfriend's home

A woman escaped injury after her ex-boyfriend started a fire at her home in Hilltop, according to charges filed Friday.

Matthew Carter, 33, of Brooklyn Park, allegedly broke into the woman's mobile home and placed a candle next to a couch, which caught fire, the court document said. Officers who arrived at the scene put out the fire with extinguishers. Nobody was injured.

Carter is in Anoka County jail on $250,000 bail. He was charged with two felony counts of arson of a dwelling and with a person inside the dwelling and first-degree burglary.
