Causes for concern

The Metropolitan Council's annual Residents Survey, which was released on Monday, found that transportation once again is area residents' top concern:

 

• Transportation: 37 percent

• Crime: 32 percent

• Growth: 7 percent

Other details from interviews with 1,300 residents:

• 94 percent said the region is better than other metropolitan areas; however, 34 percent said quality of life has declined over the past year, citing concerns about transportation and crime.

• 35 percent said parks, trails and the natural environment are the area's most attractive features.

• 95 percent said water supply and water quality is important to the region's quality of life.

• 74 percent said light-rail transit is a very important or moderately important project to undertake.
